The Transcontinental Railroad & Today
Although not the entire length of the Transcontinental Railroad is still in use today, this railroad still has a deep importance to our history. It was a world wide revolution in means of transportation, and helped to give us ideas on more transportation, many of which we still use even today. If the Transcontinental Railroad hadn't of been built, people of the United States may not have been able to grow and advance as quickly as we did.
In 1942 most of the rails at the Promontory Summit where removed and recycled
for the war effort. Despite this, several miles are still used today. However,
the original rails and ties have been replaced.
